Krystyna is a postdoctoral fellow working at the Institute of Geography and Oeschger Centre for Climate Change Research at the University of Bern, Switzerland. She completed her PhD at the University of Tasmania in 2008, working on a project that involved investigating the use of a palaeoecological (i.e. reconstructing past environments) approach as a management tool for Australian aquatic ecosystems. Her research in Switzerland concentrates on developing climate records for Tasmania that span the last 1000-2000 years. The aim is to understand what the climate of Tasmania was like in the past in order to place the present into context and provide information to assist developing realistic predictions about future changes.

Krystyna is also working on a project based on the Subantarctic Macquarie Island, which aims to reconstruct its climate and ecosystems over the last 10,000 years to determine natural variability and type and extent of change that has occurred since human arrival and the introduction of feral animals.
